Wherever we see let it be in newspapers,Interviews and even blogs..we have seen lots of women's who say that they are equal to men and there should not be any gender based bias or distinction.I respect the same and I insist there should be no gender based distinction. But do they mean what they are saying? I feel that those are mere words and they say it for pride.Why so? Recently one of my close neighbours,who were good couples accepted to end their relationship mutually.Its their own decision.They officially lodged a divorce notice via court. But mysteriously for getting divorced,the women asked for compensation for living with that guy.She demanded 5 lakh rupees from the guy whom she lived with.What for? After all the guy too lived with the same women and is he asking any compensation for living with her? Now if women feel they are equal to men,Why do they ask for compensation after divorce?
Do men ask for any compensation? Mostly women are also earning now-a-days.So what is the necessity?Do they still feel they are the weaker sex?
July has been hectic so far. The past six days were really busy days,not allowing me to concentrate on my routine works.Now I am back with some breathing space.
I recently came through series of events which raised a question in my heart, “ Being right and fighting for rights is it wrong in our country?” What I feel is, we unnecessarily compromise for small things which are against law and rights.
Last week I went to one super market to assist my mom in buying some household items. We bought all the items that are necessary and stood in a very long queue for billing. Suddenly a quarrel broke between the man who delivers the bill and the customer. I like such kind of controversies and fights.I went forward eagerly to find what’s the issue about. The customer has bought a 7up can. The M.R.P of the product is around 25 rupees. But the can was charged a sum of Rs.40. The customer asked why you are charging 40rs for a product worth25rs, the answer was clean and simple “Tax sir” the official replied. The customer didn't leave, he once again argued for a product worth 25rs you are charging 15rs as tax..which is almost 60% of the product amount. Customer got tensed and asked “Whom are you cheating? Do you think I am illiterate?” there was no reply to this question from the official. No proper bill was provided in the supermarket and when asked for a proper bill, the customer was denied.There was a huge argument and a whole crowd was waiting behind. I thought everyone would support the customer.But the crowd behind started shouting at the customer stating that he was wasting time. One man from the crowd went ahead to the customer and told if you want you buy here,Else go to another shop and buy. The customer got vexed and dropped his item and went back without buying.
Just think,For one can extra 15 rupees is charged. Consider a sum of 20 cans is sold one day.so 20*15=300 rupees in one day. 9000 rupees a month and one lakh and eight thousand rupees a year. Where does this money goes? This huge some goes to the owner as black money.This is for one product alone.Think of how many products sold and how much goes into the pockets of the owners.
A similar incident happened while I was leaving to Coimbatore from Chennai CMBT bus stand. A aquafina water bottle was sold at Rs15 instead of 13rs. So two rupees per bottle. If 100 bottles were sold then 200rs per day,6000rs a month and a huge sum of rs72000 a year.no body asks for bill in these shops. Why are we compromising on all such things? Why don’t we fight back for the right. The irony is that even those who fight against these activities are let down by the society without any support.
Another interesting incident happened while I was returning from Coimbatore. I bought a ticket for a state transport Volvo bus. The scheduled departure is at 8:30 pm. But due to unavailability of conductor, the bus was late by around 2 hrs. One of the women who travelled in the same bus stood against this.She asked for the reason for the delay, but was not responded properly. She wrote a complaint letter and threatened to lodge a complaint against the bus driver and conductor. Further the AC in the bus was not functioning properly. But none of the other passengers failed to sign the complaint letter. One man simply said “Complaining now is of no use.. Will the Ac function properly if we complain now? so no use in complaining”. The passengers couldn't understand the fact that complaining would ensure that such incidents wont happen in future.
Such a poor society. Everything right from small items to big electronic goods or whatever it might be, we seek compromise in everything. Why are we not fighting back? We seek compromise and neglect as we think those are small mistakes.But we should understand the fact that those small mistakes will cumulatively become a big crime.
Stealing one rupee is not a big crime.But stealing 100 one rupee is ofcourse a big crime.
This is the continuation of my earlier post-Women Biased Society. Once again I say gone are the days of sati,female infanticide etc..etc…. This is women era and society provides support to women's only. This is a proof.
From the title itself you can conclude what this post is about. Its about two most cruel things in this world. The two most cruel things which we have to eradicate from this world. When someone asked this question to you.. “Which is more cruel? racism or raping?” I wonder what's going to be the answer.
First lets get on with Racism and Racial Discrimination.
The definition of racial discrimination is contained in Article 1 of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination to which Australia is a party:
"The term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life".
A few days back,may be a few weeks or months, there were racially motivated attacks on Indian students. It lead to a great protest in both Melbourne and Sydney. The protest attracted attention from Medias all over the world. I felt very proud about our unity in protesting against Injustice and Racism. The whole country joined hands against Racism.
This not only happened to our students in Australia,But even our country’s Cricket players faced the same situation from fellow aussies. But irony is that we Indians were also involved in racism against aussie players.
But now lets get into a different issue. Now I have a doubt are we eligible enough to fight against the racism in Australia? Do you think foreigners from other countries are safe in India? I feel our fellow Indians do worse things to our foreigners,which is far more cruel than racism(my personal opinion). So let me prove why foreigners are not safe in India.
A few days back, A 18 year old girl from Britain came to India for teaching small kids. She works for an NGO in India. While returning from work,she was offered lift by two fellow Indians(I am ashamed of calling them as Indians). I think this happened in a place called Palampur. The girl unaware of the consequences ahead got into the cab with those two guys.Then the cruel thing happened,She was molested at first and then was later raped(not once) repeatedly.
But I wonder why no attention was given to this issue by both media and our Indian Government. So shall we deduce that according to our Indian Government Racism is cruel than Raping? Or India is not concerned about foreigners safety? Or Indian government thinks this is the revenge for the act of Racism on Indian Students?
So when we are not able to give any safety to peoples from other countries,How can we expect safety for Indians from other countries? This is not the only incident,various similar incidents have taken place in past and I fear this would continue in future. I really condemn for the above act. The girl from Britain worked for an NGO to help the kids in our country. This is what we give back to her in return.I don't think any punishment or imprisonment would be worth for such an act. I really feel a new law or rule should be enacted against rapist,so that they should never think about rape in future. This is a more serious issue than Racism and it has to be eradicated.
This is a land which abolished Sati,Child marriage,Female Infanticide(to an extent). I firmly believe raping can also be abolished and eradicated from our country.

Before starting with this topic,I convey my sincere apologies to women and girls of this society.
I personally feel that today's society is getting women biased. Everyone around in our society fights for women's rights and freedom. But taking into consideration the recent happening and events every where around India, I personally feel the women are having a lot more freedom than men in this society.
Actually women faced a lot of troubles right from their birth. From female infanticide to sati,Ragging to sexual harassment Women faced all the cruelties. This is a fact that everyone should accept. But I feel those days are gone.
Apart from this social issues now lets go to our day to day life. I don't know whether everywhere this is happening, But some events happened in front of my eye, which made me to write this article.
So lets start from a smaller issue.This is actually about a small game played in our classroom.It started as a game,But ended up in a disaster. This happened in my second year of my college(third semester). Our class girls played a game called ‘Dare game’. According to this game a girl has to propose to a boy in our class. A stupid game played by girls. So,one fine evening one of my class girls after classes came to my close friend and proposed. Of course he didn't take it seriously. We just knew its a game and didn't make it a issue. The following day, My classmates(i.e.) boys in our class, wanted to play the same game and did the same back to a girl of our class. But our class girls took the matter seriously and went to our college principal. I don't know whether there was any vengeance or revenge in girls mind. Girls gave an official complaint to our principal.
Great Principal of our college without any enquiry sent a letter to the parents of those involved in the scandal.The letters were written by our class girls. Several copies of the letter were taken and sent to the parents. You will be really shocked what was written in the letter. The letter stated that your ward is involved in activities such as handbag snatching,eve-teasing,sexual harassment,ragging etc.. the letter went on. What the parents would have thought on reading this letter. Our great principal and other officials without any enquiry decided in favour of the girls. When everyone went and justified what happened in our class,Our principal merely said “ Any girl wont do such things as dare game. You guys are lying. Its the guys who always make troubles.” This is the first example. This clearly pictures how girls are supported by society.
Now this is second example. This event took place outside a busy shopping complex. A women aged around 35 to 40(approximate) came out of the shopping complex. Two guys around the age of 20(resembled like college students) came in a bike and unknowingly the helmet which was in the hand of the person sitting at the back of the bike hit the lady’s hands. she dropped the box she was having in her hand. The biker got down from bike,sincerely apologised to the lady and gave her things which she dropped. But the lady didn't leave. She made a loud noise and called the nearby persons. She complained that the bikers tried to steal and snatch her handbag. The boys argued and told what happened.But everyone acted like they are deaf. No one even tried to hear what the boys were saying. They were taken to police station. I don't know what happened to those two.
Now taking the second condition, If any guy or a male complain about a women will the society believe? will the society take necessary action against the women's? I would probably say no to this answer. That's the power of women in this society.
Here I am not specifying every women in this society is like this. Generally the women's have an upper hand than men in this society.
Atlast I have successfully completed my four years engineering. So, now when I look back the four years I have spent in my college, I wonder what I achieved in last four years. What I learned? Will it help me in the future corporate atmosphere?
When I was studying eighth standard, The period when engineering was started as a professional course in India, My dad told me you should become a civil engineer like that person, So that you can earn more and You can be successful in life. I asked to my dad “What should I do in order to become a civil engineer?” I thought my dad would say you have to study well. But instead my dad said you have to get top marks in my board exams. So, I thought everything depends on the marks we get.
When I was in my 11th standard my mom came to me and told “you know one of our neighbours got a seat in the best engineering college. So work hard and get 90 percent, So that you can also get a good college”. Once again marks were predominant. So, I got good marks in my twelfth standard and accordingly got a seat in good college.
This not only happens at my home. This is the situation in each and every home. Everyone needs marks. Does this academic mark alone judge or decide a potential of a person?
According to our Indian Educational System, The marks alone are important. In one of the news papers recently, I read one article in which the writer specified a mother sends her ward to IIT coaching so that he might write the exam and walk into IIT for a better future. You might ask what's wrong in that. But the irony is that the boy is in his fifth standard. Can you imagine a fifth standard boy preparing himself for IIT? So parents urge their child to go to tuitions right from their fourth and fifth standard. Students go to school, then come back and heads directly to tuition. Spend two to three hours in tuition, comes back home at 7’o clock. They eat, do their home work etc. But Is there anything which makes the child to think? The analyzing capability, the creativity everything gets spoiled. They start to mug up their subjects due to the pressure from the society for getting good marks. So by the time they finish school they lack the creativity. They don't know to implement what they have read.
So everything in this education system depends only on marks. That's why after completing our degree we run behind various MNC’s for getting a job, instead of starting our own company.
I personally feel every parent should insist each and every child to be creative. For this I am not saying marks are not at all important. They are only basic criteria to prove yourself in front of others.
I wonder whether teaching is a service or just a profession to earn money....
For me everyday starts with hot coffee and Newspapers.I usually read The Hindu and Times of India.Last week I was shocked to see a news.... Guess what? Its a 17 year old girl in her XII standard died in school due to severe asthma attack.
Staff reports say that the student suffered an asthma attack while she was attending a class.The school authorities delayed in taking the girl to the hospital. And the medical facilities in the school were not adequate to give first aid.
Acoording to the sources,When the girl complained of her breathlessness,the school authorities instead of calling for an ambulance,instead called to her parents and waited for them to come.When they arrived she was taken to hospital and she was reported dead. Parents claim that why the school authorities waited until a car arrived from her house.
This happened last tuesday.
Then again this week one boy drowned in swimming pool and died.Once again lack of good coach and various facilities were the primary reasons.It took place in chennai and the coach was arrested.
And today I was really shocked to see a 10 year old girl died in school due to severe punishment.This took place somewhere near calcutta.
According to sources, The teacher punished the girl with duster for making a mistake in her bengali lessons.The girl vomited four times and when taken to hospital,she was found dead.
Three children dead in two weeks time.This is due to negligence of teachers,coach and lack of facilities. I wonder whether teachers work only for money and income, neglecting childs safety and future.
I personally feel schools are no more a safe place for childrens. Everyone used to say Mother,Father,Guru,God(MATHA PITHA GURU DEIVAM).Does the teachers still hold a place ahead of god?Are they still eligible for the position ahead of god? I dont think so.....
Today(13/5/2009). I woke up in the morning with lot of dreams to cast my vote for the first time in my life.Since i am voting for the first time in my life,I was little bit enthusiastic and excited.Before the day of voting two questions unhinged me.They are:
Why should i vote?
To which candidate should I vote?
These two bugged me for a week.I started finding a solution myself. so my first question "Why should i Vote?" I found two solutions for this answer.
First reason: India is a democratic country. So its our duty to cast vote and select a good leader.So as a citizen of india its our duty to vote.
Second reason: Someone else may vote with our name.This should not be encouraged.
I found the reasons rather convincing. So i decided to vote.
My next question...To whom should i vote? I dont know anything about politics.I dont know who is better than the others.
So i took my query to my parents.Both of them ended up with two different answers and when i asked the reason for selecting those persons,they gave some reason which was not convincing.So then who else to ask? Its my friends. I asked many.I was left out with different choices and different views of my friends.But still I never found any answer convincing.
Atlast the day arrived.I got up early.Now a bit excited and tensed.I took my voters Id and left to the polling booth with my parents.I was still in a dilemma whether to vote or note.I reached the booth.There was a long queue.The list of candidates was specified and was shocked to see nearly 45 candidates contested.And how to choose who is the best among 45.Without prior knowledge,how am i going to select the right person?So while i was thinking of this one hour went as such.I was near the room in which i have to cast my vote.After few min i reached the place. I was asked some number by the officials.Unfortunately,since this was my first time i dont know the procedure.The official opened a book and started searching for my name.My fathers,Mothers and even my brothers was there in the list.
ALAS... I didnt find mine...Since i was a newly applied one,my name was not present in the list.But i showed my voters ID.But i was not allowed to vote without the name in the list.
I was dissappointed to the core.My dream of voting for the first time remained as a dream itself.I returned home without voting.And now i have to wait for few more years to vote.
But i hope at that time i will be matured enough to find the solution for my second question.
