Disappointment!!!

2009-09-27 33 comments

This has been one of the worst weekends. Now-a-days I usually sit before the TV for watching 3 programmes.

Barclays Premier league

Formula 1

Cricket

SATURDAY:

Disappointment no 1:

My first disappointment was at Saturday evening. It was a fine evening until…. I saw both the Ferrari's Failed to qualify in a good position for the Singapore Grand Prix. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen managed only 13th fastest and Fisichella who gave the glory for Force India, managed only 18th. It was a great disappointment as Kimi failed to qualify within top 10.

Disappointment no 2:

It was not over. There was blow after blow. Second came when Pakistan managed to score more than 300 against India.

Disappointment no 3:

It was Barclays premier league..Chelsea against Wigan.. It was very disappointing to see Chelsea losing 3-1 to Wigan. Chelsea won all league matches before this game. 6 continuous wins and alas… The winning streak ended. The Blues were shattered. Heart broken.I switched back to watch India’s match.

Disappointment no 4:

About 45 min later.. Little master gave a flop show when he was caught out.. I expected a century from the little master, but he apparently failed. He just got for 8 runs.

Disappointment no 5:

Few hours later… OMG.. India lost to Pakistan. India were bowled out for 248.. All went bad when the GREAT WALL of our team was broken by our Great “Bajji”. Good innings from Dravid. It was a great disappointment.

SUNDAY:

Oh…Thank god.. Only one disappointment on Sunday. Once again Ferrari failed miserably to score a point at the Singapore Grand prix. That’s not so disappointing actually..Because the result was expected. But the greatest disappointment is LEWIS HAMILTON took P1.

Actually wanted to write a review about our teams wonderful display at the Champions trophy. But not in a good mood to write.Lets have our fingers crossed for the match against Aussies.. GO INDIA GO…

Formula 1- Is it entertainment or a sport?

2009-09-01 41 comments

"F1 is not purely sports. It is entertainment and this venture by JKSP is a commercial initiative," said a ministry source. F1 will not have an impact on Indian sports "in terms of either participation, broad-basing or promotion of excellence".

"The proposed F1 race does not satisfy conditions which focus on human endeavour for excelling in competition with others, keeping in view the whole sports movement from Olympics downwards,"

The above statement was given by the ministry of sports when JPSK sports proposed to build a formula one racing track in India. This statement had a huge impact on the world of motorsports.

I wont say formula 1 is not an entertainment. But how the ministry can say its not a sport. Do they really mean what they say? On what basis they classify between a sport and an entertainment?

Every sport has entertainment as its ingredient. Cricket, Soccer, basketball, baseball,Badminton, tennis and the list goes on. And formula 1 is no different. Lets see the reasons why Indian ministry rejected the venture.

  • Formula 1 is not a sport,its an entertainment
  • Formula 1 is a very costly sport
  • Formula 1 is not in Olympics
  • Much crowd wont turn up to watch the sport

The above four are the premier reasons given by ministry.

The first point. It seems our ministry wont encourage entertainment in  our country.

Lets take cricket. Test cricket,One day International and 20-20. How much crowd will turn up to watch a test cricket when compared to T20? Test cricket is really good form of sport. It tests the skill, ability and energy of a player. And one day cricket is also acceptable because its played for a whole day and to an extent the player can prove his skill and ability.

Lets come to t20. A shorter form of cricket, purely commercial. In this form of cricket you just have to sustain for four hours to get lots of money. It is more entertaining and cool to watch the ball flying over stands.

When they say T20 is a sport. Why not Formula 1? This shorter form of cricket is no match to the high level of engineering, competency, skill, will power of formula one racing.

If you are watching formula one races, you might have seen a Advertisement.I have mentioned this previously before in one of my posts.

Imagine yourself being subjected to a G-force of 5G’s. (Don't know what's a G-force? for example: When we sneeze or cough we experience a G-force of about 2G’s.Then Imagine how 5G’s would be… G-force is nothing but the measure of gravitational force)

Imagine yourself being in a 50 degree C pressure cooker.

Imagine your Heart beating 210 times a minute.

This is what a Formula one driver goes through.Every formula one driver loses around 1 to 2 kgs when they drive a one and half an hour race. Now would you still call t20 as a sport and formula one as a mere entertainer?

Lets analyze the next case… Formula one is a costly sport….  I do accept it is a costly sport and loads of money are involved in it.

But I really wont accept if ministry says they don't have money to spend. When BCCI can spend a lot for giving incentives and apartments as gift to Indian players, why not the Indian ministry spend on formula 1.

Third case is the most stupid one. Formula one is not in Olympics. According to our ministry other than sports played in India and the sports in Olympics, every other sport is an entertainment and not purely a Sport.

Just think how many sports are being played in Olympics and in how many India participates and in how many they are winning medals? And over the period of time there is no improvement regarding the participation of Indians in Olympics. But atleast they have started winning some medals. So this is the most stupidest of the arguments.

The fourth case…Much crowd wont turn up to watch the sport. I think the ministry must be kidding. Google very recently conducted a small survey about which communities have more number of Indians and the communities which involves active participation of our country. And to my surprise Soccer and Formula 1 were among the top ten communities in which there are lots of Indians and they are actively taking part in it. I am proud to say I am one among them.

There are fans for formula one who are ready and willing to go to every country where the race takes place. So huge crowd from other countries might turn up to India for watching the sport. And die hard fans(like me) would turn up to see the Scarlet car shining under the sun light.  So this argument is not acceptable too.

And according to me there is a difference between World wrestling entertainment and Formula 1. The former called the entertainer as everything is predetermined and fake in that. The latter involves will power and courage. So formula is absolutely a sport which is much entertaining to those who have the knowledge about the sport and for those who like watching races.

And Indian ministry has the rights to deny the development of Formula 1 in India. But I guess they don't have rights to classify whether It is a sport or an entertainer and that too without a pure knowledge in the sport.

This sport is a great Hit at Singapore and Malaysia. When they can spend for a circuit.. Why not India? The night race at Singapore was  great and dramatic one. We have already seen a Indian Formula 1 driver and an Indian Formula one Team. And the racing track in India is absolutely a dream come true.

These are my views upon the issue and ofcourse my views in this topic is biased since I am an ardent fan of formula one racing. I prefer India can spend In formula one racing than spending for the so called Idle mans game.

And Kudos to Vijay Mallya. It was really great to see the tri colour car racing for the pole position and fighting with a Ferrari till the end. Great work from VJ and team. Force India’s Budget is only one third of Ferrari’s Budget. But still it fought with Ferrari in Last race and Ferrari would not have managed without the KERS technology. Force India managed to get second position and they got the first ever points in Formula one after hard fought battle for over 30 races.

What else can be more inviting for a formula1 fan like me?

When I read the newspaper today for a moment I reacted a like a kid on watching a cartoon show. I enjoyed each and every word of the news. And even I kept reading it for four or five times again and again. I was completely clueless of my behaviour towards the news. I jumped in the air like I have won a world cup for India.

The news was that Michael Schumacher the greatest legend of the Formula one world racing is back. After Felipe Massa’s Injury Doctor’s confirmed Massa wont return to racing until next season.

Schumacher who haven't driven a Formula one car since his retirement in 2006 announced today that he will be driving for Ferrari for the remaining races of this season.

The 40 year old has already won Seven world Championships with 91 grandprix wins.He has been one of the Highest paid sportsmen of his days and now he is the highest paid mentor for Ferrari. He is also the member of United nations for drivers safety.

His name can make millions of crowds to assemble in grandstands with the scarlet flags along with the symbol of prancing horse flying everywhere in the air.

Now Michael Schumacher will drive along with Kimi Raikkonen for the rest of the season. He has to undergo rigorous training as driving a formula one car is not a joke or an easy thing to do.

Wow.I am excited to the core and I am waiting for the day to see Schumacher back in track. I am sure huge crowd will turn out to see his race. Even though I am not confident with his driving skills now,I still support him and I am still a hardcore fan of him. What more can we expect from a forty year old??Lets see… Hail Schumi….Hail Ferrari…

May 1,1994…

The world saw one of the dangerous accidents ever witnessed in the history of formula 1. One of the greatest legends, Best formula one driver who remained a nightmare for other drivers was killed in an accident during the San Marino grandprix on May 1,1994.His name,Ayrton senna Da Silva. A three time world champion, a great human too.

Before the race, a fellow driver died during the qualifying session.Ayrton senna raised the issue of Safety in formula 1 and formed a committee regarding the safety of formula one drivers. But the legend himself sadly died during the race.

He is the driver who lost his life to prove formula one drivers need safety.

Various electronic systems, tyre barricade and various security and safety systems enhanced after his death.

July 25,2009…Felipe_Massa_484953a

It was 15 years since this happened. Day before yesterday another similar incident took place during the qualifying session of Hungarian grand prix.

The suspension spring from Rubens Barrcihello’s vehicle hit fellow Brazilian Felipe Massa strongly on his head at a speed of 162mph. The impact made a small hole in the helmet and Felipe fractured his skull. He was taken to Budapest military hospital where he underwent surgery. Doctor’s say he is in stable condition, but still in danger.

I think this is high time for Formula one officials to consider safety of drivers and neglect the conflicts and politics running within. Look at the Video… Which shows how the spring hits the helmet of Felipe Massa.

FORZE FELIPE SI AMACON TE……..

You know the bravery of these drivers have to be acknowledged.

I recently saw an add about formula one….The advertisement is about human will power and Formula one.. This is what the Adv. says

  • Imagine yourself being subjected to a G-force of 5G’s. (Don't know what's a G-force? for example: When we sneeze or cough we experience a G-force of about 2G’s.Then Imagine how 5G’s would be… G-force is nothing but the measure of gravitational force)
  • Imagine yourself being in a 50 degree C pressure cooker.
  • Imagine your Heart beating 210 times a minute.

This is what a Formula one driver goes through…HUMAN WILL POWER… HOW AMAZING

Brawn’s Magic comes to an End…

2009-07-12 5 comments

Its nearly 8 months since I witnessed an Interesting race after last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix. There are couple of reasons for this.
I finally saw my favourite team in Scarlet's..The so called prancing horse back in Podium.
There were lot of shuffles and fights for the top three positions.
Final and main reason is.. An incompetent Button failed to win the race. So here is a small review about the German GrandPrix  at Nurburgring.
Red Bull’s Supremacy:
I was disappointed after the qualifying session to see both the Ferrari's 292475_95_previewstarting 8th and 9th in the grid. The McLaren's new aerodynamic package has done some magic after several poor races. The Red bull’s Charging like a bull towards the championship. Mark Webber proved during the qualifying that their Renault powered Red Bull team is the fastest on track. Right from the start the race was very exciting. Webber and Barrichello  locked wheel to wheel with a small clash. The four KERS powered cars Two McLaren and Two Ferrari's charged towards the other cars running without KERS.Hamilton made a great start, passing all the other drivers to get his car at no.1. But before the second turn his wheel punctured and he went right to the back of the grid. Massa made his way from 8th to 4th and Raikkonen from 9th to 6th. Brawn’s Rubens Barrichello took the lead from Webber. Lots of drama’s happened when Webber was given the drive through penalty for hitting barrichello. But things turned when barrichello  faced some problems in pit with fuel nozzles. Webber’s stunning courage took him to the pole position followed by his team mate Sebastian Vettel. There was a fight for the last podium position till the end of the race and Massa emerged the winner after a stunning performance.
Poor Strategy From Brawn:
Brawn Gp created a new revolution after stunning performance during the start of th292523_95_previewe reason. But their Magic started deteriorating half way through the season. Brawn during the early half of the race were fighting effectively for Podium position. But everything went wrong halfway when brawn switched to harder compound tyres very early in the race with nearly twenty nine laps remaining. Let me explain the technical reason of it.The harder compound tyres requires a high track temperature and tyre temperature to perform effectively. But the track temperature was just 11 degree c and rains were expected. So they started loosing pace and struck in midfield when they pitted for the third time. This is the first race of the season in which both Brawn Gp car’s failed to make it to podium.
Notable Performances:
Mark Webber who won his first ever grandprix after making his debut on 2002.
Massa fighting spirit from 8th position to 3rd position.292441_94_preview
Fernando Alonso who was driving great with his underperforming car, was the performer of the day.
Striking Differences:
So lets compare the so called champion of the year so far Jenson Button with Double World champion Alonso:
Jenson Button: An incompetent driver who appears to be a champion in a majestic and greatly performing car
Fernando Alonso: A great racer who is struggling with an underperforming car.
Kimi the demon for Force India:
Last year Monaco Gp was a great race and a dream run for Force India. Adrian Sutil was 292521_95_previewrunning superbly in a rain interrupted race.He was at P4,when Kimi Raikkonen clashed with Sutil after loosing the grip.
Today’s race witnessed another incident.Sutil was running on 7th after pitting. When he exited the pits kimi charged to get past Sutil. But unexpectedly sutil’s front wing hit raikkonen and finished fifteenth. once again Raikkonen spoiled Force India’s dream of getting points.

Sports:

Cricket:

Now Lets see the change in sports from last year to this year.

1)Last years ICC Champions T20:India

This Year Failed to Qualify for Semi-finals.

2)The Cricket Legends Australia Ranking Number One in ICC last year.

This Year they face continuous Failures. I never felt like they played this years T20Championship. Knocked out in the first round.

3)Pakistan, I never thought this country would ever play International cricket again after Srilankan players were shot at Pakistan. But they are the T20 Champs this year.

Did anyone notice during the match between Pakistan and Srilanka(finals). One of the spectators waved something towards camera. It was written “India Are You Watching This” . It was really hard to believe India back home and Pakistan going for Title.

Formula One:

Lets get into the World of Formula one. Honda which was one of the Giants in car manufacturers, announced their retirement from Formula one Championship.

Ferrari, The best team formula one has ever witnessed struggles like McLaren this year to get some points. But with their experience and Hard Work they are fighting their way ahead.

Felipe Massa- Last Year proved his supremacy and talent. But lost championship by one point. This year struggling in the middle of the Grid.

Kimi Raikkonen- The champion of 2007 and one of the costliest players in whole world.Earns around 130million$ a year. He is a disaster this year.

Expectation leads to Disappointment

2009-06-15 9 comments

Yesterday night I witnessed a real life example for “What happens when the expectation exceeds limits?”

Its not only me,But millions witnessed the same. This is about the exit of India from T20 world cup.

Yesterdays match was between India and England. India in a must win situation after there defeat to West Indies in their first Super eight match. India were clearly the favourites with strong batting and bowling line up. This is one of the best teams India ever had in their cricketing history. And the young, wise captain M.S.Dhoni was considered the best captain in the world. The day before the match, Legends like Sachin Tendulkar,Srikanth and Gavaskar quoted “This team can perform very well under lots of pressure”. Everyone from legends to millions of fans were expecting India to defend the title.

It was the first time in history the English crowds were outnumbered by our Indians in lords. The stadium never looked like Lords in England. It was like one of the Indian home ground's. The stadium was full packed with tri colour flag flying high in the air. It was a lovely scene to see our flags flying in air. There was a sudden huge roar from the crowd when Dhoni came to the field for the first time to call for the toss. Dhoni won the toss and selected to field. Indian Players walked to the field with a strong line-up. Gautam Gambhir, Rohit sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Ravi Jadeja, R.p.Singh, Zaheer Khan,Harbhajan Singh,Ishanth Sharma&Suresh Raina accompanied the captain.

Things started well when dangerous Luke wright was dismissed my R.p.singh.Credit goes to pathan for his excellent catch from leg slip position. However Kevin Peterson and Ravi Bopara smashed the Indian blowers. Kevin Peterson was at his best. Everyone expected the intresting duel of Yuvraj vs Kevin. But kevin proved to be mightier than ever. Ravi Jadeja rescued India by taking the wickets of Kevin and Ravi Bopara. Still England managed to get a comfortable total of 153 at the end of their Innings.

Indian innings started of in a great fashion but didn't last long.As Rohit sharma and Raina went back with a single digit. It was a great disappointment. But jadeja and Gambhir stabilised the innings. But the Run rate went sky high and the inexperienced jadeja failed to capitalise due to pressure. Further Disappointment awaited India when Yuvraj was stumped out in a cheap way. Yuvraj started of well but he went out like a cracker which failed to burst. The crowd remain silent and the captain accompanied by Yusuf pathan tried till death. Atlast the tri coloured flag came done after falling short by just three runs.

It was the same time last year when Dhoni lead an inexperienced Indian side towards the glory. There were no expectations last year as trio Dravid, Sachin and Ganguly opted their way out of team. But India managed a great win. But this year million hearts broke down when our players fell short and failed to win the battle.

Whom can we blame for the failure?

Our Great captain of all time Dhoni??

Inexperienced Jadeja??

Man with immense ability Yuvraj??

None can be blamed. The expectation we had on our team,The expectation the great legends had on our team were shattered. The greater expectation makes things worse than it is in real.

This is my rating according to yesterdays performance.

The word recession is not in their dictionary!!!!

2009-06-11 8 comments

Have you ever wondered about the influence of recession in the department of world sports. I am a great fan of formula one races. I love formula one than any other sport.

A few months back I was discussing about last years Brazilian grand prix with my friend,My friend asked me “Do you think recession would have a major influence on Sports especially formula one?” I replied “I don't think so. The teams running formula one are giants and this is not going to affect them anyway.”

The next day when i saw the newspaper I was shocked, one of the worlds leading car manufacturers Honda quitted formula one due to large expenses. From that instant formula one association has implemented budget cap, cost cutting measures and lot of steps to handle recession.

On the other hand one of the greatest sport proved that the word recession is not in their dictionary. I am talking about the worlds greatest game “SOCCER”. The recent headlines from the community of football proved that they are unaffected by recession.

Day before Yesterday, One of the Spanish teams Real Madrid transferred the veteran Ac Milan player for the record price of 58million Pounds, the worlds best and costliest deal ever made in the history of soccer.

Today, the same Spanish team once again transferred Christiano ronaldo from Manchester United for record price of 80million Pounds. This is the worlds costliest deal ever made.

Could you imagine the worlds two costliest transfers were made during the time of recession?

Catalans-The Champs Of Europe!!!!!

2009-05-28 1 comments

Barcelona proved to world that they are the best in Europe by winning the Champions League final against Manchester Untied on 27th of may 2009.

Pep Guardiola's side won by a 2-0 margin, shattering the dreams of Manchester United from achieving quintuple trophy's this year.

The Olympic Stadium in Rome saw some electrifying atmosphere with huge number of fans supporting two greatest European teams of all time(Fc Barcelona and Manchester United).Manchester United was impressive through out the year and they were almost considered as unbeatable under Sir Alex Fergusen's management. On the other hand Fc Barcelona under Pep Guardiola's management was the only team to match Manchester united.Sir Alex Fergusen would become the greatest manager of all time if his side wins this game(having already won four trophy's this season). On thee other side Pep will become the youngest manager to win the champions league if his side wins the game. With both side having some great players in line up,there is no wonder it is called the greatest games of all time.

Huge crowd turned from Old Trafford dressed in red to support their men(Manchester United).
The match started with great expectation. Cristiano Ronaldo's Aggression met the tactical Messi for the first time.

Both the team were equally good until the first nine minutes of play. However It was Samuel Eto'o of Barcelona, who got the better of Manu's defense and made a strike which went past Edwin Van der sar to score the first goal of the game in the tenth Minute. The whole stadium went silent and some barcelona fans started shouting.Soon all Barcelona flags In blue and red started flying. Manchester united in white were disappointed. Manu's defence failed miserably. The combined efforts of Iniesta,Xavi,Henry,Messi and eto'o held manchester united midfield and striker's from scoring a goal in first half. Christiano Ronaldo was marked superbly by Piquet(barcelonas Defenender).Rooney spent most of his time defending for Manchester United.

Second half started when Anderson was replaced by carlos tevez of manchester united. However barcelonas defence proved too good for the manchester united. But still manchester united hopes were alive,as they can come back into game at any minute by scoring an equalizer. But their hopes shattered when a superb pass from one of the midfielders of barcelona was turned into a header by Lionel Messi which went past Van der sar for the second goal in the 70th minute of the game. And till the end of the game Puyol and his men held tight so that manchester didnt score even one goal.Whislt blew after the added time and shouts from various barcelona fans, players echoed throughout the stadium. Disappointed fergusen and his side had nothing much to do and Manhester united faced their first defeat in champions league in the last two years. Barcelona became the first spanish team to win the champions League.

Messi finished Fifa player of the year in second behind Christiano ronaldo. But in yesterdays game Ronaldos was no were near messi's. Messi outperformed ronaldo in every department of the game.

The Prancing Horse

2009-05-19 Comments

Have u ever heard of this name before? If not can u identify the logo above?

I am referring to Scuderia Ferrari(famously known as prancing horse). So this post is related to formula one.

Those who knew formula one would have surely come across this name..Ferrari.

Ferrari is one of the best teams in the history of formula one.It was Originally founded by Enzo Ferrari in the year 1929.The prancing horse made its debut in F1 during the year1950.But 1950 was not a good year for ferrari as Alfa Romeo dominated formula one.

However Ferrari tasted the sweetness of victory during the 1951 British Grand Prix. But the consistency was lacking in Ferrari. The following years was not so easy for them.

After ten years of hard work, they won their first constructors title in the year 1961.They won thrice in 1970's. In 1980's ferrari saw some great competitions from Mclaren,Williams,Lotus and various other teams.

There was  a tough competition between Alain Prost in ferrari and late Ayrton Senna in Mclaren, during late 1980's and early 1990's.

But It was the year1999,the formula one world saw ferrari at its peak.Seven time formula one world champion Micheal Schumacher joined Ferrari in the year 1996.

Ferrari started its unbeaten run of winning 6 constructors title from the year 1999 to 2004.Micheal Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello were the drivers during this period for ferrari.

But life is a combination of both victories and failures.2005 season was dreadful for ferrari.Fernando Alonso and his Renault team showed a great improvement and the ferrari's dream of seventh consecutive title ended.

Schumacher announced his retirement at the end of disastrous 2006 season,When alonso claimed his second world title.Everyone thought the winning run of ferrari has come to an end.

In 2007 kimi raikkonen replaced Schumacher.Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe massa redeemed ferrari after poor runs in 2005 and 2006 seasons.Ferrari once again emerged champions in both 2007 and 2008 seasons.Kimi won the drivers title in the year 2007.

Ferrari holds great records in formula one which no one would have ever imagined.

They have won the most number of constructors title:16 times. And taking Drivers title:15 times.Altogether they have won 781races.

But rule changes in F1 have always bothered ferrari. The rule changes after 2004 season brought the worst out of ferrari and schumacher. They suffered a lot of reliability issues. And again the rule changes in 2009 dropped ferrari at the bottom of championship table.

But the current situation seems bit complicated for the ferraris...Politics in formula one is at its peak.

Recession!!! Formula one, being one of the costliest sport,no wonder it is affected by recession.Honda one of the giants in car manufacturers anounced their retirement from F1 after 2008 season.

So Formula one president implemented a budget cap for the upcoming 2010 season.A budget cap of about 40 million is about to be introduced.

But ferraris are against this.Being a number one team, ferrari denies to accept the budget cap and they raised a issue in court against this rule.

And ferrari sporting director stephen Domicelli reported ferrari might quit f1,if budget cap is implemented.

So,Is there a future for ferrari in formula one?Having the most number of fans around world, if ferrari quits at this stage its a big loss for formula one administration.

Being a great fan of ferrari,I wouldn't want that to happen. Without the prancing horse Formula one would be compared to a car without fuel in it.

Ten teams and their drivers are shown Below.

Brawn Gp: Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello.
